Route: From Phoenix take Interstate 17 north to Camp Verde, here you have options: Take SR 260 west to Cottonwood, or, take Maguireville exit through the sleepy town of Cornville, or take SR 179 to Sedona. Then take SR 89A north up Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff. From Flagstaff do the National Monument loop off SR 89 or take SR 180 past Snow Bowl and Humphreys Peak, the highest point in AZ. 
Scenery: Everything your eyes can handle.
Highlights: Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon, Sunset Crater, Wupatki and Flagstaff's high-country splendor.
