Overview: Very scenic mountain drive. A route once taken by Francisco Coronado and his conquistadors as they searched for the legendary Seven Cities of Gold. The area offers hunting, fishing, hundreds of trails, plus winter snow and cross-country skiing. 
Time Allowed: Full weekend.
Elevation: Over 9,000 feet.
Rating: Lush forest, wildlife galore, photo opportunities at every turn on this curvy mountain road, but well worth the slow ride.
Camping: Many developed campgrounds and miles of primitive camping areas. See Apache Sitgreaves NF Campgrounds.
Season: Year-round, best April through Oct. Check road conditions during winter months.
