Superstition Wilderness Trailhead Access
Overview: The Superstition Wilderness can be accessed by the Superstition Freeway, US 60, or by taking the Apache Trail, State Route 88.

Directions: For northern traiheads, take US 60 west, turn north on Idaho Road and follow signs to the Apache Trail, SR 88. For southern trailheads, remain on US 60 west and look for traihead signs.

The most challenging part of a backcountry hiking experience is locating the trailhead. Here are directions to the Superstition Wilderness trailheads listed in order of popularity (descending from the most popular), this listing will assist you in selecting the trails most fitting your skill level or desired wilderness experience.
Superstition Wilderness Trailheads
Peralta TH: Drive east on US 60 from Apache Junction about 8.5 miles to the Peralta Road No. 77 turnoff. The trailhead is about 8 miles down this road.
First Water TH: Drive north from Apache Junction on SR 88 about 5.3 miles to the First Water Road No. 78 turnoff. Turn right and follow this road 2.6 miles to the trailhead.
Reavis TH: Drive north from Apache Junction on SR 88 about 28 miles to the Reavis Road FR 212 turnoff. Turn right and follow this road 3 miles to the trailhead. Note: High-clearance vehicles are needed for the last three miles.
Tortilla TH: 4WD vehicle required. Drive north from Apache Junction on SR 88 about 22 miles to the Tortilla Road, FR 213 turnoff. Turn right and follow FR 213 about 2 miles to the Old Tortilla Headquarters near the signed wilderness boundary.
Rogers Trough TH: 4WD vehicles required. Drive east from Florence Junction on US 60 to paved Queen Valley Road turnoff. Follow this Road for about 2 miles until the Hewitt Station road No. 357 branches right (gravel). Follow FR 357 3 miles to the FR No. 172, turn left for 8 miles to FR 172A. Bear right and follow this very rough road for 3 miles to the Rogers Trough TH.
Woodbury TH: Follow the directions to Rogers Trough TH, except do not turn right on FR 172A; instead continue on FR 172 for 1.3 miles to the Woodbury TH.
Canyon Lake TH: Drive north from Apache Junction on SR 88 about 15.4 miles to the Canyon Lake Marina (after crossing the second bridge). The parking lot on the north side of SR 88 can be used, the trail access is on the south side of the highway.
