Salome Wilderness north of Roosevelt Lake

Location: Salome Wilderness (no mechanized vehicles allowed).
Directions: From Mesa go north on SR 87 (Beeline Highway) to the Roosevelt Lake turnoff, SR 188. A Cross Road (FR 60), is 7.5 miles south of Punkin Center, go east 9 miles to the trailhead (a small parking lot on the north side of FR 60). The trailhead is easily missed, so monitor your odometer.
Route: The trailhead is on the north side of A Cross Rd. (FR 60). 
The Jug Trail (TR 61) was an old jeep trail that begins north of the small parking area. To the east of TR 61 is The Narrows. When the jeep trail ends at the berm, you can bare right to the Narrows, or, continue on the single track trail which continues up Salome Creek. Exploring the narrows is great fun. However, depending on water flow, wading may be required. As the canyon descends, it becomes quite technical (rock climbing experience recommended). The hike back to the trailhead is steep. I recommend you be physically fit and pace yourself.
Length: 2 miles
Seasons: Year-round, but extremely hot in summer (not recommended).
BE MINDFUL OF WEATHER CONDITIONS UP-CANYON. FLASH FLOOD HAZARD!!!
Permit: No permit is required for individuals or groups. Group size is limited to 15 persons.
